It is with great sadness that we say good bye to our long-time friend, Derek Harrington. Jimmy performed with Derek on and off for close to 40 years. Derek died at the too-young age of 66 years old at his adopted home of St. John’s Newfoundland on 22 February, leaving behind a legacy of music that will live on long into the future. In the words of Hamlet:
“He was a man. Take him for all in all.
I shall not look upon his like again.”
Thanks to all who attended Jimmy’s show on December 13th at McVeigh’s. People came from as far as Windsor and Ottawa to attend. The crowd was enthusiastic and welcoming as always, and Jimmy was in fine voice.
More photos can be seen at Jimmy’s facebook page.
Jimmy had a wonderful time in Newfoundland for the 30th anniversary of the Shamrock festival. From the rehearsal to the festival itself, the music was great. After the festival, he enjoyed a visit at the Croft house to help remember Joseph Croft and finally he relaxed at the always welcoming Shamrock City.
Jimmy is delighted to be going back to help the Southern Shore Folk Arts Council celebrate their 30th anniversary of the Shamrock Festival. Jimmy will be joined by long-time friend Derek Harrington, along with Newfoundland’s own D’Arcy Broderick. Jimmy will be on stage at 3:30 on Sunday July 26th. See you there!

Welcome to Jimmy Carton’s website. We’ve had some challenges keeping the site up and running due to hacker problems – Jimmy attracts interest from all sides apparently!
Just to bring folks up to date – Jimmy had an excellent time in Newfoundland in February. He enjoyed the company of world class musicians on stage with him at the Arts and Culture Centre (see the ‘Photos’ page for a couple of pictures from the trip). Aside from that, he’s been enjoying some social events, meeting both fans of his and people of whom he is a fan.
Jimmy is well and relaxing, but will consider select gigs where he can enjoy some of his long time favourite friends and places. Feel free to contact us (see the ‘Contact’ page) if you think you have something that will pique his interest!
